Running Out of Excuses: The Accidental Athlete: Saturday Morning Run in Hyperspace

No Snooze Button Here: My 6:30 AM Torchlit Adventure

Today, while most people were still snoozing, I was hitting the road by 6:30 AM, decked out like a Christmas tree. I live so far out in the sticks that streetlights are something of a mythical creature; the nearest one is a good mile away. So, it was all about the head torch, chest torch, and enough reflective gear to give passing cars a good UFO sighting story.

Running in early morning drizzle with a head torch was… an experience. Turns out, drizzle looks totally different under torchlight – kind of like I was about to jump into hyperspace, Star Wars style. Sure, at 11 minutes per mile, I’m light years from “light speed,” but let me have my moment. No Death Star or asteroid field in sight, but hey, crazier things have happened.

I was taking it easy today, though, since Thursday’s club run saw me eat pavement – yes, I’m that runner. Falling over is practically my superpower at this point, and I’m now officially on the club “falling over” rota. (Pro tip: buy shares in Elastoplast now before they spike in sales.)

Sadly, my Fitbit decided it was way too early to cooperate. Apparently, 6:30 AM is when it goes on strike, GPS data and all. So, while there’s no proof of my route, trust me – I did a solid Zone 2 workout with just over 5 miles as seen by the data it did manage to record.
